Getting Connected Around Campus

Have you ever wondered why your academic advisor asks what you are doing to get involved on campus? You might think, "What does this have to do with my academics?" As it turns out, a lot!

Have you ever wondered why your academic advisor asks what you are doing to get involved on campus? You might think, "What does this have to do with my academics?" As it turns out, a lot!

Students who connect with the University of Minnesota community are much more likely to enjoy their experience and graduate. Getting involved also offers excellent opportunities to explore your interests, develop leadership skills, build your resume, and meet other students outside of the classroom.

To help you get started, the CSE Academic Advising team has put together a list of engagement related resources:

CSE Office of Collegiate Life: This is a great place to get CSE-specific information about student groups, events, Living and Learning Communities, and learn abroad opportunities.

Student Unions & Activities: Want to find an exhaustive list of events and student groups outside of CSE? Visit GopherLink to explore your options and find out when groups are holding events or meetings.

Undergraduate Research: There are many ways to engage in research on campus. You can apply for funding to support your research through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), do directed research for academic credit, go abroad as part of an international semester or summer research experience, work in a lab, and more.

University Recreation and Wellness: Burn off stress and stay healthy by visiting the Rec & Wellness Center (“RecWell”). You can play intramural sports and enjoy other activities based on your interests.

Gopher Athletics: Ski-U-Mah! Catch a game and experience the excitement of a Big 10 University. Be loud, be proud, and be golden!

Student Employment: On-campus jobs can help you feel connected to the University of Minnesota while earning money. This is also an excellent way to network with other students, faculty, and staff, and build your resume.

If you have questions about finding an opportunity that fits your interests, contact your CSE College Advisor. We’re happy to explore your options with you.
