When you register for your Spring 2014 courses you may find that you are not immediately able to register for your first choice section. Here are some options to keep in mind as you navigate the registration process.

  • Create a couple of schedule options using Schedule Builder so you have alternatives ready in case you need them.

  • Check the sections you are interested in a couple days before your registration date so that you have time to consider other schedules that will work for you.

  • While there may not be an opening in a particular course section now, keep an eye on the course throughout winter break. Other students are often looking to make the same sorts of adjustments to their schedule, and when they do it will create open seats.

  • Departments handle waitlists and permission numbers differently. Make sure you understand a department's procedures before you contact them. Often adding yourself to an available waitlist and attending the first class is the best approach. For specific department policies:

Math

Physics

Chemistry

AEM If you've taken the pre-requisites for an AEM course at a different institution, the system will not recognize that you have met the pre-requisites. You will need to contact the department to get a permission number in order to register.

  • Remember, if you do not receive a C- or higher in one of your CSE technical courses, you will not be eligible to move on to the next semester's work. For example, if you receive a D+ in Physics 1301, you are no longer eligible to take Physics 1302 until you repeat Physics 1301. It is up to you to adjust your schedule if this happens because the system will not automatically remove you from a course.

  • Be aware of the grade base option you select when registering. All of your major requirement courses must be taken A-F.

  • Finally, consider contacting your advisor or attending drop-ins. While departments have the final decision on class numbers, we can often direct you to the right people to contact.
