Academic Advising: Transition to department advising

Transition to department advising

Admission to the major decisions will be sent to students the week of January 13.
Admission to the major decisions will be sent to students the week of January 13. In the next couple of weeks, you will also receive an invitation to a department meeting which serves as an opportunity to officially welcome you as an upper division student, and to familiarize you with how your department handles academic advising.

During your transition to upper division, you will also receive a department advisor, which is often a faculty member in your related field. Your department advisor can assist you with course planning and registration, technical elective course selection, and other academic related questions you may have. You will be responsible for meeting with your department advisor if you receive a department stamp (DS) hold prior to future registration dates.

You will still retain your college academic advisor as an upper division student, but we encourage you to direct any major-specific questions to your department advisor, as they can provide you with more specific advice related to your academic goals.

Some of the ways you may continue to utilize your college advisor include: college/university policy questions, liberal education requirements, campus resources/referrals, and university deadlines. We recommend coming to Drop-In advising Monday-Friday from 2:00-4:00pm in Lind 105 or contacting your college advisor through e-mail to ensure any questions are best handled by our office.
