For those of you preparing for spring 2014 graduation, the College of Science and Engineering wants to make sure your APAS degree clearance check goes smoothly at the end of the semester. Please review the following tips before considering yourself ready for degree clearance.
1. If your spring semester schedule is set and anything on your APAS is still red, your degree will not clear. If something is red, consider whether you:
• Are completely missing coursework
• Will not have at least 120 credits or a 2.0 cumulative GPA by the end of the semester
• Have not transferred Advanced Placement/ International Baccalaureate scores to the University of Minnesota's Admissions Office
• Have not transferred coursework completed at another institution
• Need an APAS correction made based on an exception previously made by your department
2. Even if your APAS is completely green, you may still not be cleared for graduation.
One common mistake we see is transfer students who submitted in progress transfer coursework when they applied for admission to CSE but never sent an official transcript to the Admissions Office once the coursework was complete. Until the University has official record of a completed course with a passing grade, the course(s) will remain in an In Progress status.
3. If you are taking an Online Distance Learning (ODL) course that will be completed after the spring semester ends, please respond to any e-mails you receive from the College. They may need to confirm that you completed and received a final grade in the course-especially if the course is intended to fulfill a degree requirement.
4. Remember to re-check your APAS if you make adjustments to your spring 2014 schedule. You may have checked your APAS at the beginning of the semester, but if you drop a course later on, it may change your eligibility for spring 2014 clearance.
5. Confirm that your Technical Elective courses are showing up correctly on your APAS. If a course you expected to fulfill a technical elective requirement is showing up in the general elective section of your APAS, contact your department for clarification.
Remember that updating your APAS can take a few weeks so the sooner you are aware of an issue the better! If you have any questions about your APAS, please contact your department advisor, or attend Drop-ins in Lind Hall 105, Monday-Friday from 2:00pm-4:00pm to review your APAS with a college advisor.
