To be eligible to apply this semester, you must have all mandatory required coursework to apply completed by the end of the Fall 2013 semester, and you must have at least a 2.0 technical GPA. The required courses to apply to a given major are double boxed on your four-year-plan. Courses that are outlined in dashes indicate that you only need to have one of the two courses to apply.
The application to the major system only recognizes courses taken at the U of M, so please make sure any AP coursework or transfer coursework that is required to apply to your major is showing up on your APAS report. If you have completed classes outside of the U of M, advisors will need to manually confirm that you have all of the mandatory coursework, and we can only accept your application if all of your courses are accounted for.
The deadline to apply to a major during the Fall 2013 semester is December 30. We recommend that you apply to your selected major as soon as possible so departments can gain a better understanding of the demand for their program.
If you have a 3.2 Technical GPA following the fall semester, you are automatically admitted to your major. The remaining seats are filled on a space available basis based on technical GPAs. While a 2.0 is the minimum to apply to a major in the College of Science and Engineering, many of our majors cut off between a 2.5-3.0 Technical GPA depending on demand.

If you have any concerns about your ability to be admitted to your chosen major, please speak with your advisor about your options. If you are not admitted to your first choice major and already have an alternate plan in place, your transition to the Spring semester will go much more smoothly.
