We encourage you to create concrete action steps that will help you on your path of exploration. Here are some of our suggestions:

Let your advisor know if you are considering multiple majors. If we know early on, we can help you come up with scheduling options that allow you to keep your options open. We can also recommend courses that can give you an introduction to certain topics in a field of study.

Making an informed major decision often requires you to engage in opportunities outside of the classroom. Consider how student organization participation, research, or informational interviewing can give you concrete practical experiences to help you gain a better understanding of a field.

Tell people you are exploring! We know that sometimes it can be difficult to tell people you are not sure what you plan to study, but you never know who may be aware of opportunities for you to learn more about a certain field.

Remember: Many majors in our college can lead to the same type of career options. You may think you have to choose a particular major to work in a certain industry or that there is only one path, but many times a variety of majors will help you reach your intended career outcome.
