Being admitted to your major is a big milestone in your academic career. To help you through the process, the CSE Academic Advising team has put together some of the most commonly asked questions about applying to your major.
What's the difference between applying during fall semester versus spring semester?
If you apply during spring semester (which means you are applying for Fall 2016 admission to the major), admission is based on space availability only. There is no guaranteed technical GPA. Read this CSE Student Announcement for more detailed information.
What are the advantages of applying to the major as soon as possible?
Peace of mind! The database is very user-friendly, and it takes little time to apply. Also, as the semester goes on, it can be easy to forget about applying. Keep in mind that late applications are not accepted.
Early applications also allow CSE staff to get a better understanding of the demand for each program and advise students accordingly.
How and when will I hear back about being admitted to my major?
All students will be notified by email not later than mid-June with a decision.
What happens if I am denied admission to my major?
Hopefully, you have been working with your advisor to develop a parallel plan.
However, if you are concerned about being accepted into your first-choice major, make an appointment with your advisor right away to discuss your options. This can help you feel more at ease while you wait to hear back on the decision.
The deadline to apply for Fall 2015 admission to a major is Monday, May 23. Apply today!
